4th to 9th May, 2018
Khenpo Sonam Phuntsho is a venerable senior monk who received his Khenpo degree from Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche in 2013. Khenpo studied classical Buddhist philosophy at the prestigious Dzongsar Institute for 9 years and has also completed a traditional 3 year meditation retreat.
We are honoured to have Khenpo Sonam at Vana on a Retreat Residency from May 1st – May 14th.
During his residency in Vana, he would conduct meditation study and practice sessions in two successive batches. The first from 4th to 6th of May and the second from 7th to 9th of May, this year.
Venerable Sonam Phuntsho is an excellent teacher, fluent in English and has a deep understanding of the substance, content and depth of the Buddha’s teachings. He has the most gentle, precise and eloquent style.
His sessions will be relevant and applicable to Vanavasis from all backgrounds, faiths and walks of life. They will be beginner to intermediate in their content and style without any dilution in their authenticity.
Khenpo Sonam intends to use Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche’s book ‘What Makes You Not A Buddhist’ as a source of discussion and conversation, as well as the teachings given by Rinpoche at Vana last year. Khenpo wishes us to focus on ‘sitting’ rather than becoming ambitious meditators. Sessions will include a variety of teachings, conversations and practices both inside and outside, spread over Vana’s beautiful spaces.
A more detailed itinerary will follow soon.
Sessions will be open to all Vanavasis on retreat. While they can be attended one at a time, we suggest attending all sessions within a batch, for maximum benefit and out of respect for the Teacher. Your treatments can be scheduled around sessions.
To book your retreat at Vana or to express interest to attend Khenpo Sonam Phuntsho’s sessions at Vana, please email Retreat Reservations on firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at +91 135 3911114. You may also decide to attend after your arrival at the Retreat.
Please note, at the end of Khenpo Sonam’s time at Vana, we will have an immersive 3-day Short Retreat on ‘Glimpses of Buddhism’. This will be similar to ‘Vanavas with Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche’ and the ‘Short Retreat with Phra Paisal Visalo’ last year. A wonderful opportunity to delve deeper into the Buddha’s Wisdom and spend time together with spiritual seekers, our Short Retreats began in 2017 and are replete with wisdom learning, practice, conversations, community spirit and fun. More details to follow soon….
All sessions during the Retreat Residency and Short Retreat are open to all Vanavasis.
Anyone coming to Vana only for the 3-day Short Retreat must be an existing Vanavasi or a Vana Foundation/Vidyaloke Shishya invited for this Short Retreat.
